VEXAS syndrome in men is more common than previously thought

VEXAS syndrome in men is more common than previously thought A rare disease first identified in 2020 is much more common than first thought, say researchers at the University of Leeds investigating its origins. VEXAS syndrome is a serious inflammatory condition which develops in men over 50, causing them to become very sick and fatigued, and can be fatal. It was originally thought to be rare, but a new study has identified genetic mutations which indicate that the disease is actually much more common. The researchers developed a genetic test to identify patients who may have the disease, and now want to screen more people showing symptoms to understand exactly how common it is.

Both ventral and dorsal surgeries improve outcomes in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy

Both ventral and dorsal surgeries improve outcomes in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy Affecting the vast majority of people older than 65, cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is the leading cause of spinal cord dysfunction in the United States and across the world. It occurs when vertebrae in the neck, also called the cervical spine, begin to compress the spinal cord, leading to a wide variety of symptoms, including tingling or numbness in the hands and arms, loss of coordination and balance, bladder dysfunction, and pain or stiffness in the neck. In the United States, more than 100,000 patients with severe symptoms decide to undergo surgery for CSM each year. However, few studies provide evidence as to which of the several surgical approaches available lead to optimal patient outcomes.

Kuros Biosciences to Present at Upcoming Clinical and Investor Conferences

About MagnetOs bone graft MagnetOs bone graft has an advanced submicron surface topography that leads to the formation of bone in spinal fusion defects rather than scar tissue. In preclinical models, MagnetOs preferentially directs the body’s early wound healing response toward the bone-forming pathway, an effect that is so potent that bone can be formed even in soft tissues without the need for added cells or growth factors. This ground-breaking research led to Kuros attaining an osteoinductive claim for MagnetOs in Europe. Results from in vitro or in vivo laboratory testing may not be predictive of clinical experience in humans. MagnetOs is not cleared by FDA as an osteoinductive bone graft.

Pizza and Bones expands to Village of Lansing

The smell of fresh cooked pizza is back on Cinema Drive with the recent opening of Northeast Pizza and Bones in the Village of Lansing this past month. Located in the Small Mall on 23 Cinema Drive, Northeast Pizza and Bones is the second operation of the original Pizza and Bones restaurant in the Village of Dryden. 23 Cinema Drive used to be the home to Northeast Pizza and Scale House Brewpub, which was the second location for Scale House Brewery located in Hector, before it closed its doors last fall. Northeast Pizza and Bones held a soft opening a week ago, and manager Tim Todi said business has grown busier ever since.
